As general motors eliminated convertibles from their model line up across the board by 1975, only cadillac would be selected for the final convertible offering in 1976. They would be advertised heavily as the last convertible with an emphasis on collectability early on. Orders were strong and capped at 14,000 units in the end. To celebrate the country's 200th birthday, the final 200 examples would be made special to commemorate the occasion. Each would be exactly the same in presentation, fully loaded with all options, and badged accordingly! Only 199 of the production examples would go on to owners, as the final #200 would go directly to the gm heritage center to be placed in the permanent museum collection. Many sold originally at 4-5 times their sticker price! Minimal use�1976 cadillac eldorado bicentennial convertible for sale this spectacular example has been with the klairmont kollection since december 1993 where it was largely preserved with minimal use. It arrived here to be fully serviced for comfortable road use once again. This included installing all new radial whitewall tires, new convertible top, air conditioning service with conversion to r134a refrigerant, and engine valve cover gaskets, new engine oil/filter, and rear brake calipers & pads. Just prior to being sold to the museum, it received a new radiator, portions of the exhaust system, and new shocks. With exception to the dash clock, every single component on this car is 100% functional! The climate control system blows cold due to a recent service, all power accessories, trunk operation, factory radio and antenna, convertible top operation, etc! The original dash, door panels, all window glass (except top glass), and wonderfully soft leather are in remarkable condition! It has traveled just 5,433 actual miles! With 1976 being the final year for this legendary automobile, after which the convertible was no longer available nor was the 500 cubic inch v8. And in the years that followed, cadillacs continued to diminish in size to better suit the falling displacement of their engines. This fabulous custom '55 eldorado was designed by the tompkins brothers and built by hall of famer john d'agostino. "elmerado" is a '50s dream car named for the tompkins brothers' dad, elmer. The drivetrain has been completely redone by steve white, nick kooy.
